I’ve started to suspect she comes from the same universe that produced other noted superbeings like Captain Marvel and Katy Perry.
I recently finished reading Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away and it has quickly become one of my favourite books. Perhaps the best compliment I can give is that it is very useful, a delightful blend of theory and practicality.
Everything in our psychology (loss aversion, endowment effect, status quo bias……) and society (“winners never quit and quitters never win”) compels us to pursue an objective long after it no longer makes sense. Understanding why we are compelled to act this way and how those tendencies can be ameliorated is a vital, yet rarely taught skill.
Quitting is not failure, it is virtuous. It is recognizing that failure is coming (or has arrived) and adjusting. Or, wisely deciding to pursue a different path that has a higher expected value in the future.
Perseverance and knowing when to quit, twin superpowers.
